St. Georg Church, Georgenkirchweg 1, 09117 Chemnitz
Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz
Unfortunately, the old parish barn no longer exists today. The painting belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of St. George in Chemnitz-Rabenstein, which has loaned it to the Chemnitz art collections. There is an inscription on the back: "Painted on November 24, 1909 by Mr. Kunstmaler Schmidt-Rottluff, son of the church warden Friedrich Schmidt Rottluff before the demolition of the parish barn and the church." The inscription was not written by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, but was added by a third party. The focus was therefore on documenting the barn in detail before it was demolished. The color is an essential expression of the wintry mood.
The barn stood in a rectangle next to the rectory on Trützschlerstraße. The vicarage with garden and enclosure wall - built around 1790 - is a listed building. It is a stately, broad building in the immediate vicinity of the church with visible half-timbered construction on the upper floor.
Year 1909
